Be a Hands-On Parent

A child who gets through age 21 without smoking, abusing alcohol or using illegal drugs is virtually certain never to do so.

Since 1992, The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University has been studying the factors that make it more or less likely that children will start smoking, drinking or using drugs in order to determine the best way to get kids through the formative years drug free.

The answer?

Parents.

The biggest factor in whether your children will start using drugs is you. Having a good relationship with your children and monitoring their behavior will reduce their risk of substance use.
